Roe Overturned: What to do Next!

Dear Friends:

DON’T DESPAIR — FIGHT BACK!!!

Thank you for joining our Roe Rally on Zoom last evening. As discussed, I am providing a follow up email to summarize what we discussed, along with links.

If Roe is overturned, it will not end there. Republican-led state legislatures are already surfacing additional extremist measures classifying abortion as homicide, making it illegal to cross state lines to obtain an abortion, and making Plan B illegal. Once Roe is overturned, anti-abortion activists are planning to file lawsuits to challenge existing legislation in blue states that protects abortion rights. Their end game is to end abortion access across the country! We are also in jeopardy of losing our rights to contraceptive (Griswold), marriage equality (Obergefell) and same-sex intimacy (Lawrence), also predicated on the 14th Amendment and privacy/liberty will be next!

If you missed last night’s Zoom, or want to share it with friends, here is a link to the replay.

What to do next!

Two main focuses:

  1. Register to vote — reach out to 10 people in your circles and ask them to register to vote. Special focus on voters ages 18–30 years-old. Ask them to register, then invite 10 friends to do the same! Also, ask who are registered as Republicans or Independent to switch party affiliation and register as Democrats!
  2. Senate — we need to pick up two additional seats in November in order to limit the filibuster and codify abortion access.

Links and Helpful information!

Senate: 34 Senators are up for re-election — 9 of which are competitive and will decide who holds the majority. Currently the Senate split is 50–50.
Two Senators, Manchin and Sinema have held back progress on many measures, and refused to limit the filibuster to move forward a bill that would turn abortion right into law.
To make Manchin and Sinema irrelevant, we need to pick up 2 seats:

  • These states are held by Democrats and we must defend them: AZ, GA, NV and NH.
  • These states have open seats that we held by Republicans: PA, OH.
  • These states are held by Republicans and we can win: FL, WI, NC

This basket goes towards these Senate races: Amy’s Keep the Senate Blue Basket. You can donate to the basket or pick and chose from it. I will add WI once they have their primary.
For those of you who live in NY, NJ or CT, I am hosting Tim Ryan, who is running against far-right extremist J.D. Vance in Ohio, and you are invited to attend or co-host. Please register or donate.

State Where Abortion Rights are on the Ballot in November!
As we discussed, the right to abortion access will be determined in midterms in these states: PA, MI, WI, AZ, GA, KS and NC.
You can read more about it here!

Statewide Races: Trump is also putting forth candidates for Attorneys General, Secretaries of State and Governors in swing states that determine presidential elections. In three states — MI, PA and NV — Trump-backed election deniers have won the Republican primary, and if elected, will be in a position to do his bidding in 2024 to overturn their states’ results.
I put together a basket to donate for these three states to Protect our Democracy.

Roe Rally for College and High School Students!
I will be hosting, along with college and high school co-organizers, a rally for these age groups on July 12 at 7 p.m. Zoom option is also available.
To register, email RSVPRoeRally@gmail.com

Links to organizations we discussed!
To volunteer for state races, you can volunteer or donate to these two excellent organizations: The States Project or Sister District.
To volunteer for Senate, House and state races: Swing Left.
To write letter to voters in key states: Vote Forward.
In addition to the well known national groups that advocate on the issue of abortion and provide services, I would recommend donating to National Network of Abortion Funds. They are the grassroots on the ground orgs that have been preparing for this day!

Please share this email with your networks! I will email about future event.

Yours in the fight,
Amy Siskind
